Darlington, Oct. 11 - Alexander Maxwell, resident of this place for many years, died at his home here Friday morning at 5:30 o'clock following an illness of several months duration. Death was due to a complication of diseases. Mr Maxwell was born in Marion County on June 11, 1860, the son of Caswell and Mary Maxwell. He married March 24, 1888 to Miss Minnie Steffler. He was a member of the Christian Congregational Church and the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias lodges. He was always an active worker in the Democratic party and was a precinct committeeman at the time of his death. The survivors include the wife, Mrs. Minnie Maxwell; two daughters, Miss Carrie Maxwell, at home, and Mrs. Amy Williams, of Darlington; nine sons, Austin and Walter, all of darlington, Fred of Kirklin, Clarence a sailor stationed at San Diego, CA; and Elmer, Ralph, Lawerence, and Byrl all at home; a sister Mrs. Amanda Steffler of Anderson; four brothers Jack, George, and Tom all of near Smartsburg, and Ed of Thorntown; 28 grandchildren and one great-grandchildren. Another son died in infancy. The funeral service will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 at the Christian Congregational Church. Burial will be in the Darlington Odd Fellows cemetery.
