Mrs. Jane Wilson Whannell, 86, pioneer resident of the Traer community, died shortly after noon here Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. K. G. Stoakes. Death was due to the infirmities of age. She had been in failing health three years or longer and was confined to her bed about fourteen weeks. The funeral was conducted at the Stoakes home Monday by the Rev A H. Boettcher, Traer Congregational pastor, assisted by the Rev. B. M. Wallace, of the United Presbyterian church, and burial was in Buckingham cemetery. Pall bearers were J. W. Brown, of Iowa Falls; G. W . Galloway, Cedar Falls; and James Whannel, S. L. Whannel, J. W . Dodd and Hugh Whannel, all of Traer.

The decedent was a twin sister of Mrs. Margaret Brown, who survives at her home here. The two daughters were born to West and Margaret Dryan Wilson, who had com e to America from Scotland the previous year, at Preston, Connecticut December 20, 1847. West Wilson and his brother, John, entered land along Wolf creek valley in 1854, and in 1856 the family came to the Traer community to live. The mother died in 1860, and the father was married again to Barbara Kennedy in 1863. Jane and others of the family attended school in Crystal township, and she and Margaret attended school at Grinnell for a part of one year. On January 23, 1873, the year Traer was established, the decedent married Robert Whannel. They began housekeeping in Grant township, where Mrs. Whannel was united with the United Presbyterian church in the early days of that institution.

Mr. Whannel retired from farming in 1885 and the family moved to Traer, where he died in 1903. Mrs. Whannel leaves the one daughter, Mrs. Westina Stoakes, and a son, Henry, also of Traer. There are two granddaughters and three great grandchildren. The following brothers and sisters also are living Mrs. Margaret Brown, Traer; Mrs. Catherine Creswell, Reinbeck; W . D. Wilson, Grundy Center; Sara Wilson, Glasgow, Scotland; Dr. John W. Wilson, San Francisco, California, and D. C .Wilson, Waterloo.
