Grace was the 9th child of West "Squire" Wilson and Margaret Wilson nee Drynan. Her mother died at the time of her birth. She was sent down the road to live with her Aunt Jennat Galt nee Wilson until her death in 1863. Her sister Catherine Creswell nee Wilson (1854 to 1940) was, also, sent to live with her aunt until she married William Creswell in 1873.
