Daughter of Otto Wenstrom and Ida Olson. She never married.

Evelyn graduated from Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota in 1923 with a major in French. Thereafter she taught French, German and Latin and coached the women's basketball team in Slayton, Minnesota for three years.

She next taught Latin at Boise High School for eight years. In Idaho she took up horseback riding including hurdling and Roman riding. While in Boise, she also took flying lessons and became the first licensed women pilot in Idaho.

She returned to Minnesota and attended Minnneapolis business college and became a teacher of business education. She ended her teaching career at Rochester High School, where she taught for 19 years.
