Violet J. Beckus, age 83, of Machesney Park, IL died at 12:10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012, at home.
Born March 19, 1929, in Rockford, IL daughter of Joseph and Anna (nee Johnson) Wahlberg. Graduated from Rockford East High School in 1946. Married Melvin A. Beckus on Sept. 26, 1948; he died Sept. 4, 2007. She was a loving homemaker, enjoyed knitting and sewing, and retired as a beautician. She served as a Girl Scout leader for 10 years. Since 1946, she met with several close high school friends once a month for potluck. Member of the YMCA and the YMCA Senior Women's Club. Attended Grace Lutheran Church and God's People Serving (GPS). Violet was very proud of her family.
Survivors include daughters, Susan Gilbaugh-Beckus of Rockford and Joann (Tom) Hawes of Roscoe; grandchildren, Dwayne (Julie) Forbes of Loves Park, Jennifer (David) Carson of Machesney Park and Kristen (Philip) Kennington-Mackey of Fort Collins, CO; great-grandchildren, Rayven and Lillyan Forbes, Daniel and Nora Carson, Gabriel and Caleb Mackey; brother, Ralph Wahlberg; nieces, Tammy (Dain) Schneemilch, Christine (Karl) Gaffron and Cindy (Randy) Hargate; nephews, Joe (Melissa), John (Bekka), Mike Wahlberg and Brian Beckus; several great-nieces and -nephews.
Predeceased by parents; brother, Jerry (Sallie) Wahlberg; brother-in-law, LaVerne Beckus.
Service at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, in Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with visitation from 11 a.m. until service; the Rev. Rob James will officiate. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to YMCA Senior Women's Club, God's People Serving Church, or donate blood to the Northern Illinois Blood Bank in memory of Violet Beckus.
