Melvin A. Beckus, 80, of Machesney Park died at 2:20 p.m. tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, in his residence. Born Oct. 23, 1926, in Rockford, the son of Arnold and Sadie (Schrader) Beckus. Graduated from Jackson, Lincoln and East High School. Married Violet Wahlberg on Sept. 26, 1948. Retired from National Lock after 32 years as a tool and die maker. Survivors include his wife, Violet; daughters, Susan (David Nordstrom) Gilbaugh-Beckus of rockford and Joann (Thom) Hawes of Roscoe; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by parents; brother, LaVerne Beckus; and brother-in-law, Jerry Wahlberg. Service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, in Delehanty Funeral Home Ltd., 401 River Lane, Loves Park, with the Rev. Rob James officiating.
