Biography
Near Poolesville Benson Talbott was born in October, 1821. He engaged in the mercantile business in Washington from 1845 to 1851, when failing health forced him to seek an occupation that would give him outdoor exercise. He turned his attention to farming, which he followed until 1865, and from that time until 1872 carried on a mercantile store in Washington. He then went back to his farm, where he remained until retiring from active life in 1885. He now resides in Gaithersburg, Montgomery County. Until the war he supported Whig doctrines, but since then has been a Democrat.

Gaithersburg, Md., Dec. 30.-- Mr. Benson Talbott died at the residence of his son, William H. Talbott. in Gaithersburg, 'this morning, aged nearly 83-years. Mr. Talbott was born at Poolesville on June 24, 1821, and for many years engaged in business there as a farmer and merchant. Afterward he embarked In business in Washington as a grain dealer, but retired in 1S70. continuing to reside on his farm until 18S3, when he sold it and came to Gaithersburg to reside. On January 1, 1848, Mr. Talbott married Miss Maria Hyde, daughter of Thomas W. Hyde, who, with five children, survives him. The children are Dr. Thomas Melville Talbott, of Falls Church. Va.; Henry Maurice Talbott, of Rockville, the State's Attorney for Montgomery county; William H. Talbott, member of the Rockville bar; Mrs. Lillian Eversfield, wife of Dr. William O. Eversfield, of College Park, Md., and Charles Leslie Talbott, of Poolesville.
