Theresa was the second of four children born to Joseph Spiegel and his wife, Gertrude in the hamlet of Woelf, near the market village of Eiterfeld, Fulda, Hessen, Germany. On 24 Feb 1840 she was baptized with Theresia & Joannis Witzel standing as her godparents.

She was a cousin through marriage of Bishop Joseph Rademacher who was Bishop of Nashville, Tennessee (1883-1893) and Bishop of Fort Wayne, Indiana (1893-1900). Further information regarding her ties to the Rademacher family, her husband or any children is unknown.

On 19 October 1905, Theresa traveled from Germany to Batesville, Indiana to visit her sister, Flora Spiegel Blank and the family of her late brother, Joseph Spiegel who had died four months previously in June. She had not seen her sister in over 40 years. Perhaps not having any living family to return to, Theresa remained with Flora until she died in 1908. Burial took place at St. Louis Cemetery.
