Along with his older siblings, Wilhelm was born in the hamlet of Woelf by Eiterfeld, where his father was a schoolmaster. He was baptized the same day as his birth with Kilian Helfenbein (paternal grand uncle?), also a schoolmaster from Eiterfeld, as his godfather. Wilhelm lived but a short time, dying at the age of 16 weeks of unknown causes.
