A daughter of William Snyder/Snider and Barbara Wilks/Wilkes, Emma was married twice. Her first was to Joe Riley on 18 April 1896 in Burke, Shoshone County, Idaho, and ended in divorce. Her second was to Richard E. Ganahl on 26 October 1903 in Wallace, Shoshone County, Idaho.

Emma died at the Burn Brae Sanitarium in Primo, Delaware County, Pennsylvania after an illness of about 5 months. The certificate of death shows her usual residence as Salt Lake City, UT, although Delaware County is also where her daughter, Charlotte Elizabeth "Lisa" (Ganahl) Kiefer lived. Emma was interred in Mount Calvary Cemetery on 20 February 1951.
