Geraldine Vera Ayers (aged 73) a former Benton Harbor school teacher and principal, died at 1:05 a.m. August 25, 1961 at Mercy Hospital, Benton Harbor, Berrien County, Michigan, where she had been a patient since June 30.

Mrs. Ayers had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Gehlert.

She was born in Columbus, Ohio, on October 18, 1887 and came to Benton Harbor, Michigan with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. George B. Simons. The Rev. Simons was pastor of the First Baptist church of Benton Harbor, Michigan for several years.

Geraldine Vera Simons married Henry Estes Ayers on January 1, 1921 in Berrien County, Michigan. He preceded her in death on February 14, 1950. No children were born of this marriage.

Mrs. Ayers had taught at the old Columbus and Central schools, and was principal of Seely-McCord school prior to her marriage to Henry Estes Ayers, a Chicago attorney, in 1921.

Following the death of her husband in 1950, Mrs. Ayers moved back to Benton Harbor, Michigan.

Survivors include three brothers, Ward B. Simons, George B. Simons , and Paul W. Simons.
