Soo Line Switchman Drops Dead In Local Yards
Owen M. Rolfe, 59, switchman at the Soo Line yards, dropped dead this morning
while walking towards the depot at 10th and Commercial streets for his lunch
hour.
Rolfe, who had been troubled with a bad heart for some time, was found lying
near one of the shacks a short distance from the depot by fellow workmen a few
minutes after he had left for lunch. A doctor, called to the yards, pronounced
him dead.
Mr. Rolfe, who lived at 413 River Drive, resided in Manitowoc for the past 16
years. He was born in De Pere April 19, 1878. On June 27, 1914 he married Emma
Loescher, who survives. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Wattawa,
Urbanek and Schlei funeral home, the Rev. W. C. Kurtz officiating. Burial will
be in Evergreen cemetery.
Survivors include the widow and one daughter, Clodagh, at home.
The body will lie at the funeral home from this evening until the time of the
services Friday.
