Monday, 17 January 1938 obituary, The Daily Times, New Philadelphia, Ohio, page 8: Mrs. Martha Couts, 84, life long resident of near Newcomerstown, died Saturday at 10 p.m. at the home of her son, Ranken Couts, Port Washington. She had been in failing health for several months. Mrs. Couts had resided with her son for the past seven months. Surviving are five sons, Clarence of Venevocia, O., Elwood of Columbus, John of Uhrichsville, Charles of Newcomerstown and Ranken of Port Washington; a step-son, McClelland Couts of Van Wert; 29 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Elwood and Mrs. Harriet Hart, both of Port Washington and Mrs. Mary Browning, Detroit, Mich.; and two brothers, Lemuel of Iowa and William residing in Michigan. Funeral services will be held from the son's home in Port Washington tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Rev Oliver of Newcomerstown will officiate. Burial in the Newcomerstown cemetery will be in charge of Fred Gengnagel.
