CLAXTON - Lucile Bowen, 90, died August 6, 2003, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Lowndes County native had resided in Evans County most of her life. She was the former owner and operator Bowen Dry Cleaners and administrator of the Evans County Welfare Dept from 1938-1946. Mrs. Bowen was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Bowen. Survivors: one brother, Johnny Miles of Blackshear, Ga., three sisters, Bertie Miles of Blackshear, Ga., Waunell Strickland of Mershon, Ga., and Geraldine Gardner of Patterson, Ga,; several nieces and nephews. Visitation: 6:00 p.m. until, Thursday, August 7, 2003 at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home. Funeral Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 8, 2003 at the First Baptist Church. Burial: Brewton Cemetery. Remembrances: First Baptist Church, 313 W. Main St., Claxton, Ga., or the charity of your church.
