Mrs. Ashley was born Dec. 28, 1920 in rural Gibson City, a daughter of Kenneth and Merle Leonard. She married Curtis F. Ashley on Aug. 19, 1946, in Gibson City. He died Aug. 22, 1992.
Surviving are two sons, Gary (Linda) Ashley of Milledgeville, Ga., and Randy Ashley of Paxton; and a daughter, Julie (Kent) Saunders of Mahomet. Her heart was filled with love for her eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Stanley and Evan (June) Leonard, both of Gibson City; a brother-in-law, Don Hiner of Gibson City; and a special lifelong friend, Vona Baker of Clinton. She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Doris taught in a one-room school house north of Gibson City. She loved animals, decorating for all of the holidays, and being with her family. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Gibson City.
