GIBSON CITY — Stanley E. Leonard, 89, died at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday (Aug. 19, 2015) at the Gibson Area Hospital Annex in Gibson City.

He leaves his three daughters, Debra (Marty) Carr, Conyers, Ga.; Vicki (Gail) Reiners, Gibson City; and Jodi (Craig) Patton, Springfield. Also surviving are grandchildren, Chris Carr, McDonough, Ga.; Katie (Carr) Stewart, Atlanta, Ga.; Jennifer (Reiners) Foster, Gibson City; Drew Patton, Louisville, Ky.; Stephanie (Patton) Cookson, Normal; Michael Reiners, Normal; and Ben Patton and Nick Patton, both of Springfield; three great-granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Phyllis; parents; brothers, Russell Leonard and Evan Leonard; sisters, Dorothy Barnes, Doris Ashley and Wilma Hiner.

Stanley was born on Dec. 30, 1925, in Gibson City, a son of Kenneth and Merle Kerchenfaut Leonard, and he remained a lifelong resident of that community. He graduated from Drummer Township High School. He married Phyllis Pretzlaff on Nov. 30, 1946, in Gibson City, and together they raised three daughters. Phyllis died July 13, 2001.

He farmed near Gibson City all of his adult life, enjoying the friendship and camaraderie of many in his community. He spent many years working as a school bus driver for the Gibson Community and the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley school districts. He enjoyed horseback riding and was a member of the Ford County Boots and Saddle Club. He was also a member of the American Lutheran Church in Gibson City.

Memorial tributes may be made to the Gibson Area Hospital, Gibson Area Hospital Annex or to the American Evangelical Lutheran Church.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the American Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gibson City with the Rev. Jim Davis officiating. His visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Drummer Township Cemetery in Gibson City. Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City is in charge of arrangements.
