John Moore, only son and fourth child of Captain John and Martha Harris, was born in York County, SC on Friday, 3 Feb 1797.
He graduated from South Carolina College in December 1819. He chose the medical profession, and entered upon a full course in the medical schools of New York City and Philadelphia, graduating in 1822.
John Moore Harris married Evelina Eliza Ross on Tuesday, 19 April 1825. He located near to the place of his birth, on land adjoining his father. He had an extensive practice, rose to eminence in his profession, but in the midst of his usefulness was seized with a violent attack of pneumonia, which in a few days ended his life. John died 20 March 1848 in the fifty-first year of his age.
Evelina Eliza Harris died 19 July 1855, aged fifty-five. Their remains lie in the cemetery at Big Steele Creek Church.
