John Dragoo was born in Johnson county Ind, Feb 2, 1837. He died at his home of consumption, April 2nd, 1889, aged 52 years and two months. He was married to Mrs. Harriet Chenoweth, July 12, 1866. To this union were born eight children, five boys and three girls, of whom six survive the father and his faithful companion, to mourn their loss. We learn he had no fears of death, but looked forward with joyous anticipation to the time when he would be absent from the body and present with the Lord.

The funeral services were conducted at the Pisgah M. E. church with which he had lately cast in his lot. Rev. Winegar, of Nineveh, a man greatly admired by the deceased, preached the memorial sermon on which occasion, by Mr. Dragoo's own request, he spoke from 2 Cor. 5-8.

Rev. Winegar was assisted in the services by Rev. Wells of Edinburg. After the singing of the last hymn, "They're gathering home from every land," the last look was taken by a large concourse of people and the worn out tenement was transmitted to mother earth in the Pritchard cemetery.

Thus death came and claimed as his own one of Johnson county's best citizens, a good friend and neighbor, a loving father and a Christian gentleman. The family circle is irreparably broken. Here there are sorrow and tears until all shall be united in the world beyond.
