Joseph W. Day, Aug. 8, 1905 - Nov. 8, 1998, Joseph W. DAY, 93, Akron, died at 5 p.m. Sunday at his home. Born to Charles E. and Awilda Mae WOOD DAY in Akron, he married Helen I. MILLER on May 24, 1928 at South Bend. She died Feb. 9, 1997. Mr. Day was a foreman at Akron Fork & Hoe of Akron and a carpenter. In later years he was a grade school and high school custodian. He was a member of Akron United Methodist Church and Modern Woodmen of America. Survivors include one son, Richard E. DAY, Akron; one granddaughter, Pamela and husband James VANDERMARK, Akron; one grandson, Joseph W. and wife Marianne DAY, Akron; five great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister-in-law, Eva SMITH, Peru. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Julia DAY and a brother, Earl DAY. Services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Rev. Steve FLECK and Rev. Stephen HAIFLICH officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Akron United Methodist Church.
