Death Claims Old Settler

Sarah A. Goff was born November 27, 1841 at Muncie, Indiana and died at Creighton, Nebraska on February 27, 1932 at the age of 90 years and 3 months.

She moved with her parents to Madison County, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood.

She was united in marriage on October 13, 1868 to Asa Stewart Clements, following his honorable discharge from 11 Company, 28th Regiment of the Illinois Infantry. To this union, 6 sons were born, 2 preceding her in death at the age of 3 years and 26 years. Her husband also preceded her, passing away in 1912.

She came to Nebraska in 1891, coming to Knox county onto a farm and remaining in this vicinity over 40 years. Twenty-one years ago, she and her husband moved to Creighton and after his demise she made her home with her son, Bert.

She united with the Methodist church when a girl and remained faithful to its teaching until the end. Before her health failed 11 years ago, when she suffered a stroke, she always attended church and enjoyed the fellowship. She was always of a cheerful disposition, honest in her dealing and true to the ideals of motherhood. Her passing removes from our midst another pioneer and worthy citizen.

Her health was fairly good until the day of her death, being taken sick about 7 a.m. and passed peacefully away at 2 p.m.

She leaves to mourn her death, 4 sons, Lambert M., Edward R., both of Creighton; Walter N of Plainview; Curtis M. of Everest, Kansas; one brother, Alfred Goff of Iowa; one sister, Mrs. T.J. Powell of Earlham; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday March 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the Methodist Episcopal church with Rev. William E. Wilson in charge and burial was made in Greenwood cemetery.
