AGED RESIDENT DIED SUNDAY MORNING

Talitha Jane Powell, 90, Called By Death. Had Been Invalid Three Years.

Talitha Jane Powell, 90 died at her home in Earlham Sunday morning, December 20. She was one of the early residents in Madison county having come with her parents to a farm south of DeSoto 74 years ago. She has been a resident of Earlham since 1909.

An injury suffered in a fall three years ago had made her an invalid since that time. She became gravely ill more than a week ago. Funeral services in charge of Rev. H. S. Mitchell were held at the Methodist church at 2:00 p.m. Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.

OBITUARY
Talitha Jane Goff, the fifth child of Nathan P. and Elizabeth Norris Goff was born in Shelby county near Muncie, Indiana, August 6th, 1846. She received her education in rural schools.

At the age of 16 she came with her parents in a covered wagon to Madison county, Iowa and settled on a farm four miles south of DeSoto.

On September 25th, 1864, she was united in marriage to Ruel B. Powell. They established their home on the Powell homestead near the Fairview church. To this union twelve children were born. Three of these passed on in early childhood and infancy. On April 28, 1900 she was called to part with her companion but remained on the farm until 1909 when she built and moved to her present home in Earlham.

Since then death has called the two oldest son, Bert and Charley and on February 12th 1932 a daughter Etta Myers was suddenly called.

For the past three years she has been an invalid, a condition caused by a fall in her home. All pain, grief of sorrow was met with a cheerful smile and a quiet peace that characterized her personality.

She leaves six children, Benjamin Powell of Hillsdale, Wyoming, Florence Shepherd, Ada Brown, Lester Powell, Blanche Neff and Beulah Hibbs all of this vicinity; and twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and a brother, Alfred Goff of Polk City, Iowa.
