Andrew R. Byerly Sr., 73, of Shady Lawn Rest Home, Mountville, and formerly of Conestoga R2, died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday after an illness of two years. He was the husband of the late Mabel Gehr Byerly, who died in 1974. Born in New Castle, Del., Byerly was the son of the late Abram and Dora Cummings Byerly. Byerly was a track foreman for Penn Central Railroad, retiring after 33 years service. He was a Christian by faith and attended various churches. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees. Surviving are the following children: Andrew R. Byerly Jr., Lancaster; H. Charles Byerly, Millsboro, Del.; Grace, the wife of Richard J. Geyer, Lancaster; Virginia, the wife of Eldon C. Teel, Mountville; Mabel E. Zeers, Mountville; Alva, the wife of Daniel Randazzo, Highland, Calif.; and Ruth, the wife of Wayne C. Sload, Columbia. Byerly is also survived by his sister, Thelma Hey of Fresno, Calif.; 26 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. (Sunday News - May 2, 1982)
