Joe K. Bacon, 87, died Sunday, August 27, 2006, at Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. He was born in Glennville, Georgia, on November 8, 1918, and was a longtime resident of Warner Robins, moving to Claxton several years ago. He was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the African and Pacific Theaters, and retired from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base after 32 years of service. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Landrum Lodge #48 F&AM, Scottish Rite in Macon, Knight Commander Court of Honor, an honorary member of Tyrian Lodge #III F&AM in Warner Robins, and an avid ham operator. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins, recently moving his membership to Bull Creek Baptist Church in Claxton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Jane Jones Bacon; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall David Bacon, Sr.; a brother, M. D. Bacon; sisters, Madge Burkett and Velma Jean Purvis; and son-in-law, Larry D. Bryant.

He is survived by a daughter, Cindy B. Bryant of Springfield; sisters, Elizabeth Strickland and Annette Moore (John) of Claxton; a brother, Dan Bacon (Jean) of Macon; a sister-in-law, Lois Bacon of Glennville; grandchildren, Amanda B. Bryant of Springfield and Jason Bryant of Indianapolis, Indiana; great-grandchildren, Alison Racer and Christopher Thorpe; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 29, at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home chapel, with Elder Harold Smith officiating. Burial was in Beards Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Gaston L. Foskey, Chuck Woods, Charles Delks, Bob Parker, Jim Vance, and Ed Hatmaker.
