MRS. W. E. ALLEN

Anna Mary Taylor, daughter of H. J. and Mary E. Taylor, was born in Guernsey county, Ohio, October 26, 1870, and passed away at her home in Lucas, Iowa, Sept. 22, 1942, at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 27 days.

She came to Iowa with her parents at the age of three years and grew to young womanhood near Chariton.

During her early girlhood she accepted Christ as her Savior and placed her membership with the United Presbyterian church. She was an earnest and conscientious worker in the church as long as her health permitted. She was also an active member of the Eastern Star order for a number of years.

She was one of a family of twelve children, seven of whom survive. They are Mrs. Mabel Cowan, of Lucas; John, Roy and Elmer Taylor, of Chariton; Mrs. Margaret Douglass, of Festas, Mo.; Mrs. Elvia Harris, of Waterloo; and Lee G. Taylor, of Sunnymead, Calif.

Coming to Lucas in 1890, she worked in the millinery trade in the M. F. Baker store until her marriage to W. E. Allen on April 28, 1893.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen lived their entire married life in Lucas with the exception of two years spent in Chariton when Mr. Allen was County Auditor and seven years in Woodburn where they were in the mercantile business.

To this union six children were born. One daughter died in infancy. Those surviving her are her husband, W. E. Allen, of Lucas; two sons, Earl and Edwin Allen, of Lucas; three daughters, Mrs. Ardis Rogers, of Lucas; Mrs. Aileen Penick, of Chariton; and Mrs. Mildred Towne, of Jamaica.

There are sixteen living grandchildren. One grandson, whom she mothered for several years, is in the U.S. Marines in San Diego, Calif., and was unable to be present.

For the last eight years she has been confined to her home.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. E. Beals, were held at the Lucas Presbyterian church at two o'clock, Friday afternoon, and burial was in the Chariton cemetery.
