He spent two years in the U.S. Army at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL. Upon his return to Longview, he was employed at Axelson for 41 years until he retired in 1997. His work took him to many countries around the globe.
Howard was a docent at East Texas Oil Museum, a volunteer in the nursing home ministry, and was active in the music ministry of Mobberly Baptist Church. He sang tenor with the Praisesingers and was a charter member of Mobberly's Sixteen Singing Men.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Betty Cates, the mother of his children, and his second wife, Alline Cowley Anderson.
He is survived by his three children,11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
