Mr. Abeyta retired from White Sands Missile Range as a Carpenter and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather who was an example to his family and friends of living a life centered on Christ.
Survivors included his loving wife, Amalia "Molly" Montoya Abeyta of the family home; five sons, Richard Abeyta and wife Patsy, Bobby and Timmy Lewis all of Dona Ana, Chuck Lewis and wife Elsie, Terry Lewis and wife Gloria all of Las Cruces; three daughters, Bertha Ruiz and husband Alfred, Ida Duran and husband Richard all of Dona Ana, Gracie Manzanares and husband Steve of Las Cruces; two brothers, Ben Abeyta and wife Paula, Lupe Abeyta and wife Gloria all of Las Cruces; three sisters, Emma Misquez and husband Rufio of Dona Ana, Rosa Olson of Las Cruces and Alice Baca of Los Lunas. Other survivors included thirteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents; one son, Donny Lewis; one sister, Emilia Abeyta; one granddaughter, Sara Abeyta and one great grandson, Marcos Ramon Rodriguez, preceded him in death.
At Mr. Abeyta's request cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service was held in the First Assembly of God Church, with Pastors David Vistine, Manuel Rodriguez (his grandson) and Felix Gonzales officiating. Inurnment of cremains was held in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
