GUADALUPE "LUPE" COSTALES ABEYTA, age 84, lifelong resident of Doña Ana entered enteral life Thursday, December 27, 2018 at La Posada Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by his daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. Our beloved father is now reunited with our loving mother, Gloria M. Abeyta. His spirit is free and bathed in the glory of God. He was born May 23, 1934 to Ramon and Sarah Abeyta. "Lupe", as he was fondly known to family and friends was a devoted husband and loving father to his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His presence will be greatly, missed by the countless numbers of people whose hearts he touched by his magnetic personality and great sense of humor. He was a Veteran who served in the Korean War, and continued his service to our country for 35 years under the Federal Government at White Sands Missile Range during which time he received many awards and accolades for his impeccable work ethic.
Left behind to celebrate his life are his daughters; Sylvia Wood (husband Dave Wood) of Dona Ana, NM; Elizabeth Bulger (husband James Bulger) of Dona Ana, NM; Angie Bustos (husband Donald Bustos) of Las Cruces, NM; and Mona Abeyta of Las Cruces, NM; granddaughters Audriana Bustos, Kari Wood and Jamie Bulger; grandsons Justin Bulger (wife Lindsey Bulger), Tommy Sosa Jr., Anthony Bustos, and Jacob Sosa; and great granddaughters Sloan and Sayler Bulger. His surviving sister, Rosa Olsen of Kansas City; Richard Abeyta whom he thought of as a brother and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins that he adored.
Guadalupe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria M. Abeyta of 53 years; his parents Ramon and Sarah Abeyta; brothers, Ramon Abeyta Jr. and Ben Abeyta; and sisters, Emma Misquez and Alice Baca.
At his request cremation has taken place and recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 1:30 PM Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Our Lady of Purification Catholic Church, 5525 Cristo Rey in Doña Ana where the Memorial Mass will follow immediately thereafter with the Reverend Luis Alfredo Garcia Celebrant. Inurnment of Cremains will follow at the Doña Ana Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Army National Guard Honor Guard and the Marines Corps League El-Perro Diablo Detachment.
Serving as honorary bearers will be his four grandsons, Justin Bulger, Anthony Bustos, Tommy Sosa, Jr. and Jacob Sosa.
