Death came last Sunday to mercifully release Franklin Gress from years of feebleness and suffering at his home on Rollin Street in this city. Several years ago the deceased suffered strokes of apoplexy which left him in a helpless condition, and since last fall his condition kept growing continually worse.
Franklin Gress was born at Wilkesbarre, PA., October 21, 1854. The family came to Wisconsin 60 years ago and settled on a farm west of Edgerton in Dane County. Three years ago the deceased came to Edgerton to live. On Christmas Day, 1878, he was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Ford, who together with three daughters, Mrs. Joe Wileman, Mrs. James Keller, Mrs. George Van Valin and one son Arthur, survive. Mrs. Lucy Pringle, Mrs. Al Hain and Miss Sarah Gress of Edgerton and Mrs. Cora Fonda of Milwaukee are sisters of the deceased. As a sad coincidence must be mentioned that a brother of Mrs. Gress, Mr. William Ford, well known contractor of Janesville and originally a town of Fulton man, passed away at Mercy Hospital, Janesville, Sunday evening a few hours after the death of the subject of this notice.
The funeral services for Mr. Gress were held from the home at !;30 and from the M.E. Church at 2:00 Wednesday, the Rev. Bailey officiating.
