Manuela Chavez Benavides, age 90, died peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family on February 2, 2009. She was born January 5, 1919 in San Martin, Texas to Guadalupe and Jose Maria Chavez. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother. She married Jesus Benavides in 1946 after he came back from WWII. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jesus Benavides of sixty-two years, her parents, four sisters, four brothers, and one grandson.
Manuela and Jesus were long time residents of Mathis, Texas where they raised their family of seven children. Their retirement years were mostly spent in Corpus Christi close to their children. Manuela was very involved in her children's lives. Her greatest joys were spending time with family and her hobbies were sewing, cooking, baking, and quilting. She was a loving, compassionate and giving person. She will be mostly remembered for her constant daily devotion to prayer. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. She is survived by seven children, Jessie(Nora)Benavides, Manuela(Charles)Carter, Victoria(Baldemar)Salinas, Irma(Jesse)Villarreal, Mary(Ray)Paiz, Joe(Sylvia)Benavides, John(Annette)Benavides, sixteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three brothers, and many friends and relatives.
