Arthur Janney, Jr. enlisted as a private in the U. S. Army (either the Reserves or the Medical Administrative Corps.) at Fort McPherson in Atlanta on March 15, 1943; at that time he was single, with no dependents, and had completed two years of college. He graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta in 1949.

Listings in U.S. City Directories show Arthur B. Janney, Jr. and Ellen M. (Mrs. Arthur) Janney living at 2505 Nations Street in El Paso, Texas in 1952 and at 15 Ash Street in Rome, Georgia in 1953. In 1952 Mr. Janney was in the U. S. Army; in 1953 he was employed as an engineer with Celanese Corporation.
