Richard E. Albert, 83, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2007, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 26, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Le Mars. Rev. Jon Meredith will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Military honors will be provided by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon on Sunday, November 25 at the Mauer–Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present 2-5 p.m. to greet friends. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Monday.
Richard Eugene Albert was born on March 26, 1924, in Le Mars, the son of Charles and Gertrude (VanderMeer) Albert. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1942. In March of 1943, Richard enlisted in the US Army and served during WWII until receiving his honorable discharge. He returned to Le Mars and began his career in auto parts sales.
On November 21, 1948, Richard and Joann Shilt were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Le Mars. Richard continued his career in auto parts sales until accepting a position with Plymouth County Farmers Mutual in 1969. He would work as an insurance adjuster for the next 31 years, retiring on January 1, 2001. Joann passed away on April 24, 2002.
Richard was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Le Mars. Throughout the years he held numerous positions and assisted with many functions, including singing in the choir for 68 years. He was also a member of the Le Mars Lions Club and Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Richard enjoyed visiting with his many friends at church and in the Le Mars area.
He will be lovingly remembered by his son Larry Albert and his wife Marilyn of Bloomington, Minnesota; three grandchildren Joe, John, and Jennifer Albert; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joann; two sisters, Mary Ellen Kehrberg and Charlotte Peterson; and two brothers, Carl and Wayne Albert.
