Mrs. Mary C. Evans, 78, died April 9, 1948 in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leslie Hoffman, N. Main Street, after a long illness.
She was born July 20, 1869 in the town of Wilmurt, a daughter of John C. and Henrietta Fischer Richard and was the last of 10 children.
She was married twice, her first husband William VanAlstyne died in 1901. Her second marriage to Evan W. Evans took place in 1910. Mr. Evans died in 1912.
Following her first marriage Mrs. Evans lived in New York for several years and then had lived in East Herkimer until coming to the home of her daughter.

Besides her daughter, wife of Sheriff Leslie Hoffman, she leaves a son James VanAlstyne, Ilion and two grandchildren.
