HENRY J. BOUTIN
Henry J. Boutin, 36, U.S. Navy veteran and for the major part of his life an esteemed resident of Bennington, died about 12:45 this morning at his home at 108 Congress St. He was the son of the late Wenceslas and Celestine Boutin of 330 Safford St.
Born in Armagh, Canada, July 1, 1918, the family came to Bennington in 1922 and he received his education at Sacred Heart School, later taking a correspondence course in radio and television.
He entered the armed forces in April 1943 and served with the Navy until October 1945. His overseas duty was mainly in the Pacific theater. In frail health for several years, he had been confined to veterans' hospitals at intervals. His last employment had been at Bijur Lubricating Corp. Previously he had been at Vought-Sikorsky Aircraft in Connecticut and with Consolidated Aircraft in California.
He had been most active in the societies and clubs with which he was affliated. He had a wide acquaintance in this area and many regret to learn of his untimely death.
Among the groups to which he belonged were the Catholic Order of Forresters, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Loyal Order of Moose and Disabled American Veterans. He was also a former member of Bennington Post, American Legion. His last illness in October had forced him to retire from activity as an officer in the C.O.F., V.F.W. and D.A.V.
A member of Sacred Heart Church, he had also belonged to the Holy Name Society of that parish.
Survivors are his wife, the former Marion Clifford whom he married at Sacred Heart Church Nov 7, 1942 with Monsignor J.A. Campeau officiating; one daughter, Beverly, aged 9; his mother, Mrs. Celestine Boutin; five sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Yvonne) LeClerc, Mrs. Paul (Clarina) Bellemare, mrs. Gerald (Lydia) Delisle, Miss Emma Boutin, Mrs. Charles (Gabrielle) Bortell, six brothers, Joseph Boutin of Willimsett, Mass., Leonard Boutin of Holyoke, Mass, Leon, Louis, Jules and Roland of Bennington. Also surviving are several uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held from Mahar Funeral Home Monday morning at 8:15 and from Sacred Heart Church at 9. The Navy veteran will be accorded full military tribute. Entombment iwll be at Park Lawn Vault.
