Louis Boutin

BENNINGTON -- Louis O. "Louie" Boutin, 90, a resident of Maple Street, Bennington, died Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at the Vermont Veterans Home following a long illness.

Born October 5, 1916, in Armagh, Quebec, Canada, he was the son of the late Wencelas and Celestine (Goulet) Boutin. He received his education in Bennington. Mr. Boutin was a World War II Army veteran.

Louie married the former Doris Emma Smith on Nov. 17, 1945, at Sacred Heart Church in Bennington.

In earlier years he was employed by Seven States Gas Company and Bellemare & Sons Furniture. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose 1233 for over 50 years. He also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1332 in Bennington and American Legion Post 90 in Pownal.

Survivors include his wife, Doris E. Boutin, of Bennington; a brother, Leon Boutin of Bennington; nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins. Mr. Boutin was pre-deceased by a daughter, Margaret M. "Peggy" Boutin who died Oct. 29, 2001; and also by six sisters, Emma Boutin, Yvonne LeClerc, Lydia Delisle, Marie Marcoux, Gabrielle Bortell and Clarina Bellemare; and five brothers, Joseph, Leonard, Henry, Roland and Jules Boutin.

The funeral will be held at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Saturday, June 9, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. with a prayer and from All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home at 11 a.m. where the Mass of Resurrection will be offered.

Friends may call at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. The wake service will be offered Friday evening.

Private committal services will take place at the convenience of the family lot in Woodford Cemetery.

If friends desire, contributions in memory of Mr. Boutin may be made to Scared Heart St. Francis de Sales Church, Sacred Heart School or the Activities Fund at the Vermont Veterans Home through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington, VT 05201.

All members of the following organizations are asked to meet at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday evening to conduct services for Louis O. Boutin: VFW Post 1332 at 6:30 p.m., Bennington Moose Lodge at 7 p.m. and American Legion Post 90 at 7:30 p.m.

Boutin Service
BENNINGTON - Funeral services for Louis O. Boutin were held from All Faiths Chapel at the Vermont Veterans Home Saturday, June 9, 2007, where the Mass of Resurrectin was offered by the Rev. Michael A. Demasi, chaplain and the Rev. Julian LaFlamme.
Organist was Louise Gauthier and soloist was Monica Murray. Hymns offered during the funeral mass were "Ave Maria", "How Great Thou Art", "On Eagles Wings".
The funeral pall that covered Mr. Boutin's casket during the funeral mass was placed by Mr. Boutin's wife Doris, Linda Moxley, Renee Ralston and Bernadette Carbin. A wooden cross was then placed on the casket by Mr. Boutin's brother Leon. The scriptural readings were offered by Laura Boutin and John Ochs. The Offertory Gifts were presented by Linda and Jodie Moxley.
Bearers were Bernard Bellemare, James and Joseph Boutin and John Moxley Jr.
A prayer service at the Mahar & Son Funeral Home preceded the funeral Mass.
Friday evening the Wake Service was offered at the funeral home by Father Demasi. Also conducting services at the funeral home Friday evening were members of Bennington Moose Lodge 1233, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1332 and Pownal American Legion Post 90.
Military honors were accorded the World War II Army Veteran. Taps were sounded by Susan Green. The American flag was folded by James Boutin and John Moxley and presented to Doris Boutin. As part of an artillery Battalion stationed in Africa, Mr. Boutin was awarded the Bronze Star for Heroic achievement against the enemy for his actions at El Guettar, Tunisia on March 23, 1943. A veteran of extensive action during World War II, Mr. Boutin was also among the first soldiers to land on Normandy Beach on D-Day June 6, 1944.
Private committal services took place at the family lot in Woodford Cemetery.
Following the funeral service a reception was held at the VFW Post in Bennington.
