Delbert Moses Braund was born in Richland Co., Wis on 24 Mar 1921, the first born to Walter A. and Anna M (Huschka ) Braund. He graduated from the Pine Rock Rural School , Town of LaValle, Sauk Co, Wi. Delbert never married. He was in a Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) camp near Baraboo, Wi from 1936 until he entered the military. Delbert was in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a flight engineer on a B-25 Mitchell Bomber assigned to the 500 AAF Bombardment Squadron and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. His plane was shot down, and he was killed in the crash in New Guinea on 7 Aug 1943. Delbert is buried in the Punch Bowl Crater National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Honolulu, Hawaii. He is buried in lot B381 and a military marker is at that site. He was 22 years old. His parents received a certificate from the President honoring the memory of Delbert M Braund for his sacrifice.
