Husband of 1) Priscilla Hughes. She was born in Pennsylvania and was the daughter of William Hughes and Elizabeth Jane Gilson.

Husband of 2) Sabina Ursula Griffith

Frederick was a physician. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Pennsylvania in 1843 and worked there for 10 years before moving to Murphysboro in 1854.

During the 1860 U.S. census, Frederick and Priscilla are living in Jackson County, Illinois.

He was a 1st Lt. in the Civil War, Co H, 27th Reg. Illinois Infantry.

He and Sabina were married February 9, 1865 in Jackson County, Illinois.

He was elected mayor of Murphysboro in 1868 and was a member of the city board of aldermen for a considerable period. He was one of the originators of the Southern Illinois Medical Association, and served several terms as president of the same.

He was one of the founders of the First Lutheran church of Murphysboro, and served as superintendent of its Sunday-school for twenty-two years.

He started the first newspaper in Murphysboro, the Jackson Democrat, in 1855 along with G. C. Bierer. They brought a printing press to Murphysboro via steamboat on the Big Muddy river.

He and Sabina had 4 children, Mary, Annie, Frederick G. and Ella.
