Zella Alice Proudfit Eaton
July 21, 1889 - December 10, 1979
Zella was born in Enfield, Illinois, one of the younger of ten children, to James and Virginia Proudfit. She taught school for a short time in Enfield, then moved to Vancouver, Washington, where an older sister lived. She entered nurses' training and graduated in 1914 from Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland. She married John Eaton on April 4, 1917. They had two children: John, who died in France in 1944, and Virginia, who is married to Robert Taylor. She is survived also by four grandchildren: Judith McGarvey, Kathleen Greene, Robert Taylor and James Taylor, and one great-grandson, Jonathan Peterson. Also by two brothers, Vernon Proudfit of Portland, Oregon, and Virgil Proudfit of Mount Vernon, Illinois.
Zella was a resident of Portland for 62 years and moved to Concord in 1973 where she made her home with Virginia's family. She worked at her nursing profession for over 30 years, finally retiring at 72 because of ill health. She was a lifelong Presbyterian and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Concord for six years. She was an active member of the Adult Activity Center and of the Mission workshop She will be buried beside her husband at the Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland, Oregon.
