Vernon Proudfit, the son of James B. and Virginia Linder Proudfit, was born on the family farm in Mill Shoals township, just north of Enfield, White County, Illinois.

He moved to Portland, Oregon in 1914, where he worked as an inspector for Southern Pacific Railroad. He was also the owner of Ace Recording Company for 25 years and a member of Morris Telegraph Club and the Eighth Church of Christ Scientist.

He married Hazel Anderson on December 24, 1917. They had two children, Carol June, who died as a baby, and Royal Vernon.

He was survived by his second wife Ressie Ohmart Mark Proudfit of Portland; his son, Royal of Estacada; a stepdaughter Mary E. Wagy of Southgate, California; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
