Parents were Jacob and Mary Snodgrass Walker.

Married Virginia Lipes in 1852. William and his wife were second cousins. On March 10th of 1856 William was granted a land patent near Deer Ridge, MO for 80 acres signed by President Franklin Pierce.

In June of 1861 William and 3 of his brothers, John, Peter and James joined the 2nd NE Missouri Home Guards (Union) militia in the Civil War lead by Captain Felix Scott of Deer Ridge. They were in the only battle in Lewis County at Clapps Ford, not far from the Walker's farm as the Clapps were neighbors of the Walkers. After 6 months of service William, John and Peter went home to farm. 16 year old James joined the 21st Missouri regiment which was one of the most widely traveled and hard fighting regiments in the Union Army. The 21st Missouri was also one of the 1st to see action at Shilo. James was 16 years old when he fought at Shilo. The Walker's also had another brother, Henry Purlonzo Walker who joined Porter's regiment which was a Confederate Calvary unit from NE Missouri regarded as guerillas by the Union Army. Later in 1864 William and his brother Peter also joined the 69th Enrolled Missouir Militia (EMM)were again they served under Captain Scott. The Walkers were a house divided during the Civil War.

He was a retired farmer.

Died of pneumonia.
