Grand Chenier — "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." — Psalm 116:15 — Edward Warren Miller, 86, went to be with the Lord Wednesday night, Nov. 26, 2003.
He was born June 19, 1917, in Oak Grove, two miles south of Creole, to Abram and Cornelia Miller. He was the youngest of seven children. He married Ruby Murphy Miller in 1936. He was a charter member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Creole and served as a deacon there.
He was self-employed all of his life, running a cotton gin, grocery store, a motel, and a dump truck business. He enjoyed sharing vegetables from his garden and grew a beautiful flower garden. He enjoyed singing hymns and listening to his family sing. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ruby of Creole; four daughters, Frances Carol Miller of Creole, Judy Miller Rutherford, wife of James Wendell Rutherford Sr. of Creole, Karen Miller Boudreaux, wife of Gary Boudreaux of Lake Charles, and Donna Miller Fletcher, wife of Dr. Dennis Fletcher of Lake Charles; seven grandsons, Shannon Keith Aucoin and wife Daphne Aucoin of Houston, James Wendell "Jay" Rutherford Jr. and Benjamin Edward "Ben" Rutherford, both of Creole, Chad Wayne Fletcher and wife Stephanie of Grapevine, Texas, Jeremy Warren Fletcher of Lafayette, Jonathan Eli Rutherford of Creole and Timothy Michael Boudreaux of Lake Charles; one granddaughter, Angela Kaye Boudreaux of Lake Charles; four great-grandsons, Keith Aucoin, Jacob Fletcher, Nathan Fletcher and Tyler Fletcher; and one great-great-granddaughter, Zoe Lynn.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, in Oak Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Wallace Primeaux Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Miller Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Creole. Visitation is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. today in Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles, 4-8 p.m. today in Hixson Funeral Home of Creole, and from 9 a.m. Saturday in the church. Memorial donations may be made to Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607; World Hunger Fund through a local Southern Baptist Church; James Robison Mission Feeding, P.O. Box 982000, Fort Worth, TX 76182; or the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, 7200 Desaird St., Monroe, LA 71203.
