With parents & siblings, Liverpool England.
Harry (Henry) at center back, abt 1920.
Harry was a son of Samuel Dudley (1849-1932) & Annie Marie Moreton (1851- ?). Beautiful mother Annie appears ailing and confined to a wheelchair.
The Family has a photo of Henry "Harry" returned back to Liverpool in 1922. Descendants wonder if his mother might have died in 1922, thus attending her funeral the reason for his trip, but no one knows.
Some Family Lore ... Henry was a stow away at age 14, out of Liverpool, no one knows why he wanted to get away ... the ship went to South America and was taken over by Pirates. The ship was then brought to the Gulf of Mexico, where Henry jumped ship. Some how, probably due to ship and pipe skills, he made his way to Texas where he got work. The Dudley Cousins are very proud of their Grand Daddy "Harry."
Tragic Day
Son & Family Friend Drown
A boat outing on the Trinity River in Fort Worth, Texas, on 3 Oct 1914, turned tragic when the boat capsized with the following five on board: Harry Dudley (28), his 5-yr-old son John Dudley (5), his wife's sisters Mary Bagley (18) & Fannie Bagley (13), & friend Matthew "Mat" L. Patton (23). "Harry was the only member of the party who could swim." Tragically, Harry's little son perished as panicked Fannie choked & pulled Harry under the water, and Matthew drowned trying to save Mary. John Dudley (5) & Matthew Patton (23), drowned that day, while Harry, Mary & Fannie survived half-drowned.
