Emily J. Collins was the daughter of Mary Ann Ward and Wellington Harrison Collins. Her tombstone indicates she was born in 1852, yet Emily is listed in the census of 1850 as age one. So it would seem that the other censuses , grave marker, and even her marriage record, are not quite right. If she's in the 1850 census at all, she must have been born before 19 July 1850, the enumeration date.

She married Lemech M. Harris in 1875 and was the mother of six children.

The 1880 census shows that Emily spent a few years of her early married life in Pennsylvania where L.M. sold fanning mills. By 1886, they are back in Michigan in Unadilla Township. By 1910 and into 1926 L.M. was boarding in Detroit and working in an auto factory, while Emily maintained their home and cared for the younger children in Gregory. L.M. came home on weekends when possible, and on his vacations from work. This arrangement must have been difficult for everybody.

Emily's husband died in 1926, and in 1930 she was residing in the home of her daughter, Rose, in Detroit.

The six children:

Bertrand Joshua, Jun 1875 - Nov 1901.
Donald A., Jun 1877 - Dec 1909.
Genevieve R. "Jennie" (Mrs. George Fenn), born 1881 in PA.
John Wellington
Roseline "Rose," born Jul 1886.
Bernice, born Oct 1889.
