Wellington "Harrison" Collins was born in Rose, Wayne County, NY, the son of Betsey Hall and Alpheus Collins.

He married Mary Ann Ward (b. 1816) on 2 Sep 1840 in Washtenaw County, MI, Rev. Berry North, minister.

Mary Ann Ward's lineage did not filter down in the Collins family, other than that she was from Butler, NY. The book, "Rose Neighborhood Sketches," however, confirmed that she was the daughter of Eli Ward and Mary "Polly" Lovejoy who resided in Wayne County NY, but moved to Michigan. The book indicates that Eli and Polly were the parents of Henry, Cyrus, Adaline, Mary Ann, and Maria.

W. H. Collins was a minister and elder of the Methodist Church. He served as pastor of Central Methodist Church on Grand Circus Park in Detroit 1852-53. He lived several years in St. Joseph County, MI, as a pastor, as well.

He died in Stockbridge, Ingham County, MI, age 42.

Harrison and Mary were the parents of:

1. William W. - 1844
2. Helen - 1846; died 19 Apr 1882 in Jackson MI. Married Elmer E. Armstrong.
3. Judson - 1848
4. Emily - Jun 1852; married Lemech M. Harris; died 1946.
5. Alfred Alpheus - died 6/19/1856, age 8 months, according to the cemetery transcription; yet he appears as "Freddie" on the 1860 census.

The children were orphaned upon the death of their mother in 1862. In 1870 William W. Collins was residing with his uncle, Addison Collins; Helen Collins was teaching school and residing with her uncle, Sidney Collins; Judson Collins was residing with his grandparents, Selah and Permelia Collins; and Emily Collins was attending college in Albion, MI, which was home to an uncle, William W. Collins, M.D. These various residences are in close proximity to each other.
