Melva Gale Nelson, who exemplified love, faith, and service to her family, passed away on August 3, 2006.

She was born March 31, 1916 to George Henry Gale and Elsie Kartchner Gale in Liberty, New Mexico. Melva, the ninth of eleven children, was raised in a warm and loving LDS family in Chandler, Arizona.

While attending school, she met Robert Wiley Nelson, and after their courtship they married in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple on December 4, 1936. Together, they raised six good and honorable children.

Melva served in numerous callings within the LDS Church in her lifetime. She was a woman of many talents who loved giving to her family most of all. In the later years of her life, she enjoyed water color painting and especially sewing quilts for each grandchild. She will be missed greatly by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Each of her grandchildren knew they were her favorite.

She is survived by her husband, Robert; and six children, Kay Heaps of Riverton, R. Leon (Carole) Nelson of Sandy, Raymond (Joyce) Nelson of South Jordan, Steven (Cindi) Nelson of Heber, Mark (Wendy) Nelson of Sandy, and Janice (Tom) Child of Bountiful; twenty-eight grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; and her brother, Jim Gale. She was preceded in death by her parents; nine siblings; and baby son, James Kevin.
