Rev. Grat Marvin Horton, 85, of Richlands, Va., died Friday, July 30, 1999, at the home of his son in Richlands, Va., following a lengthy illness.

Born in Russell County, Va., he was a son of the late Christopher Mays Horton and Grace Chambers Horton. He was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area and was former Pastor of the Richlands Tabernacle for over 50 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Chorilda Ann Whited Horton; one daughter, Mrs. Thelma Osborne; three brothers, Brittain, Emory D. and Otis Horton; and two grandchildren, Sarah Eunice Horton and M.G. Morrow.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lillian Lorraine Horton of Danville, Va.; four daughters, Mozell Cordle of Richlands, Mrs. Rufus (Naomi) Ray of Cedar Bluff, Va., Mrs. Dan (Patricia) Jennelle of Paintlick, Va., and Mrs. Danny (Sharon) Roberts of Richlands; six son, Donald Horton and wife Betty of Richlands, Rev. Ralph S. Horton and Doris E., Christopher (Mack) Horton and wife Shirley, Rev. David S. Horton and wife Brenda, Rev. James D. Horton and wife, Greta, and Rev. Phillip Horton and wife Carolyn, all of Richlands; three brothers, Fred Horton of Doran, Va., Carl Horton of Inverness, Fla., and Woodson Horton of Knoxville, Tenn.; one half brother, Jackie Horton of Wardell, Va.; and twenty-five grandchildren; twenty-three great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday at Richlands Tabernacle, Richlands, Va., with the Revs. C. Charles Barnette, G.W. Birdson and Ancil Childress officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Claypool Hill, Va.

Pallbearers will be Rev. Keith Cordle, Randy Cordle, Rufus Ray Jr., Dr. Marvin Ray, Tim Ray, Rev. Roy Dale Keen, Richard Alan Keene, Rev. David Lee Horton, J.D. Horton, Kevin Grat Horton and John Paul Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Dye, Junior White, Larry Skinner, Michael Harman, Rev. Rick Whitt, Rev. Mike Roberts, Randall Walls, Rev. Vernon Hayton, David Chancey, Rev. Michael Switzer, Jeff Wyatt, Men of the Richlands Tabernacle and area ministers.

Friends may call at the church from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. until time of services on Sunday.
Hurst Scott Funeral Home, Richlands, is in charge of arrangements.
