Jack Horton, age 70, of Cedar Bluff, VA passed away Thursday, August 23, 2018 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, VA. He was born November 1, 1947 in Richlands, VA. He was a retired coal miner. He loved his wife, children, and all his grandchildren dearly. He enjoyed the New York Yankees, Little League baseball and football. Jack loved to bring drinks to all the little league practices and games, he was an unselfish giver to many and he will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher Horton and Della Smith; one son, Greg Horton; two sisters, Jettie Shelton and Nina Carroll.
Those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 46 years, Connie Stilwell Horton; two children, Cynthia Hale and husband Bobby of Cedar Bluff, VA, Matthew Horton and wife Elizabeth of Knoxville, TN; one sister, Betty Leonard of Abingdon, VA; one brother, Fred Horton of Raven, VA; grandchildren, Cory Hale, Benjamin Hale, Alli-Grayce Hale, Zoe Horton, Lukas Horton, and many other coaches and children who affectionately called him “Papaw Jack”.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Sunday, August 26 at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff, VA.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Dennis White officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Casey-Short VFW Post 9640 will conduct Military Graveside Rites. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
