Deceased was born in Wayne Township. He subsequently removed to Pine Creek Township with his parents. On November 10, 1853, he was married to Margaret Jane Dunn. The aged couple were expectantly looking forward to November of this year when they planned to celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary. Mr. Shaw was of Scotch-Irish ancestry and was interrelated with the old families of White, Montgomery, Crawford and Quigleys. He came from a stock of Revolutionary forbears, and of pioneers of the West Branch Valley.
For a number of years, he was a school director of Pine Creek Township, resigning that office when he was elected a justice of the peace, a position he filled with recognized ability for 40 years, having been elected for eight consecutive years. Of a judicial temperament, fair minded and impartial, he dealt justice to all, and when his decisions were appealed, he was invariably sustained by the courts. He was a director in the State Bank of Avis and was health officer at the time of his death. His acts of charity and benevolences were widely known and he was a familiar and respected name throughout the county.
The funeral will take place at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, from the house. The services will be conducted by Rev. J. L. Ewing, of the Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church. Interment will be made in Jersey Shore.
