Ella Marie (Read) Gallup was the daughter of John Butler Read and Emerline (Perkins) Read. She was born in New York state on 21 Aug 1848, possibly in Stillwater, Saratoga, New York or Dayton, Cattaraugus, New York. Ella moved with her family to Grand Ridge, La Salle county, Illinois in the mid 1850s. She married Jason Gallup on 26 Dec 1877 in La Salle county, Illinois. Jason and Ella had five children - Ralph J. Gallup, Emma Pearl (Gallup) Wesson, Read H. Gallup, Willard J. Gallup and Willis K. Gallup. Ella died in Welsh, Jefferson Davis parish, Louisiana on 6 Jan 1922. She was initially buried in Oaklawn cemetery in that city, then was reinterred at Grand Ridge cemetery (date unknown).
