Note - Byron's census records indicate he was born in New York, however it is interesting to note that the Streator Times obituary indicates he was born in La Salle county.

J. BYRON READ RITES HELD HERE YESTERDAY

The funeral of the late J. Byron Read was held yesterday afternoon, with a short service at the home of the eldest son, John A. Read, who resides on the Read homestead one and one-half miles north of Grand Ridge, and continuation of the services were held at the local Methodist church at 2 p.m.

Rev. R. I. Stone, pastor, had charge of the services assisted by Rev. C. J. Lotz of Grand Ridge.

A quarter, Mrs. Noble Fisher, Miss Frances Rutan, Ed Lewis, and F. W. Poundstone sang three selections, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Some Day the Silver Chords Will Break" and "Abide with Me."

The pall-bearers were E. F. Moss, E. M. Farnham, J. W. Antram, L. C. Rinker, Harry Bacon, and David Hunter.

Mrs. Henry Provance and Mrs. O. S. Payne had charge of the flowers.

The interment was made in the Read family lot in the Grand Ridge cemetery.

The relatives from a distance were Mrs. Linnie B. Williamson the eldest daughter, of Pierceville, Kan., J. Edwin Read of Forest City, Ia, John C. Read of Aurora, Wilbur Read and sister, Mrs. Ethel Kirby, of Piper City, Ill., Henry Thompson of Marseilles, and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence R. Read and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wing of Ottawa.

GRAND RIDGE, ILL. Dec 28--Thed three sons, Edward and Lester of Forest City, and John Read of Grand Ridge are left, also one sister Mrs. Ida Wells of Odesta, California.

funeral of John Byran Read, well known Grand Ridge man, who passed away at the home of his son Edward Read of Forest City, In., on Monday, was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Church, Rev. R. I. Stone, pastor, officiated. The interment was made in the family lot in the Grand Ridge cemetery north of town.

Mr. Read had gone to the home of his son Edward at Forest City about three weeks ago for an extended visit, where he contracted a cold which developed into pneumonia which proved fatal.

Mr. Read was born on the Read homestead one and a half miles north of the village, seventy-seven years ago, on the third of March. He was united in marriage with Mrs. Harriet Porter, the daughter of the late James Porter, who proceeded him in death several years ago. Two daughters, Mrs. Linnie Williamson of Pierceville, Kansas, Mrs. Emma Hegland, Ottawa, and three sons, Edward, and Lester of Forest City, and John Read of Grand Ridge are left, also one sister, Mrs. Ida Wells of Odesta, Calif.
