Son of Mrs. Josephine A. Rumbolz who resided in Los Angeles, California.

Eugene served as a Staff Sergeant & Nose Gunner on B-24J "The Bull" #44-40688, 865th Bomber Squadron, 494th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Minnehaha County, South Dakota prior to the war.

B-24J #44-40688 took off from Angaur Island, Palau Islands on a bombing mission over Lahug, Cebu City, Philippine Islands. During the mission two of the engines on this B-24 were noted as not working for an unknown reason. They crashed into the sea.

Eugene was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster and the Purple Heart.
